Disclaimer: This is purely educational (and we're not lawyers)…yous're building a firearm and so brand certain you're legal and safe.  If you run into trouble while building, please consult a qualified gunsmith.

There has to be some cutoff of where a piece of metallic or polymer becomes a gun.  The 80% is industry slang but it's where the ATF deems something not a firearm.

Difficulty

I'd guess 25% difficulty compared to completing an AR-15 lxxx% build.  It's actually not that difficult if y'all're semi-capable with hand tools and don't rush things.

All my builds have been with this so it works for me.  The trigger is actually quite good and ameliorate than the stock Glock one.  I as well like how information technology comes with the 3.5 lb connector, and extended versions of the slide lock lever, slide stop, and mag catch.

Brand certain you lot go the right full-size or meaty version. The PF9SS (G43) will also have different parts.

How to Build: Milling & Drilling

Make sure to follow the instructions straight from Polymer80.  This is just how I did information technology for a couple frames.

This should be what yous arrive your kit with some variations in size of the frame and color.

If you're going the milling route…load it up on your vise only not too difficult.  Otherwise, go crackin' on hand-filing everything!

Adjacent up is the hardest bit…milling out the Butt Block.

Official instructions is to flip the jig and continue to employ the mill bit.  Just my first one acquired a lot of vibrations and started going off runway.

Barrel Block Milling

I would propose doing it entirely by hand…or starting it off with a Dremel and a grinding attachment.

Get slowly and don't try to remove everything in one become.

Rough Barrel Block

Now come the hand tools to finish everything off.  If y'all have more robust files similar I practise lying around…information technology's going to become a lot faster.  But the small ones I recommend volition besides work…you only demand a little more patience.

Now I grab the sandpaper…I outset off a little rougher and graduate to something pretty loftier grit (less rough).  You lot can also wrap information technology effectually something hard and direct if yous don't trust yourself.

Sandpaper Polymer80
Sandpaper Polymer80

And for the barrel cake I roll up a piece of sandpaper.  You tin can also wrap it around something cylindrical for more force.  Pay extra attention here since the smoother it is the smoother your slide activity will be since it's where the recoil spring lives.

It still wasn't super smooth when I assembled everything so I went back and evened it out some more…and made sure there wasn't stuff to snag on the sides.

Here's the finish outcome of my 2 P80s.

And from the front end.  It's pretty forgiving as you can see my starting time gray ane had an oopsie with the mill bit on the height right.

That wasn't so bad…was information technology?  At present you lot just have six like shooting fish in a barrel paw drill portions left.

Make sure to utilise the correct bit, not accept information technology in a vise, apply a mitt drill, and go side by side (not all the way through).iii drills on each side for a full of 6.

Drilling Polymer80 Holes

Just wait…what about the end snips?

Turns out…they are perfect for cut off the frame parts!  I'll be trying this in a future build.

How to Gather: Polymer 80 Frame

Now…let's assemble everything!  Some pictures volition take my upgraded trigger (aureate colored) since I went back and retook some pictures that weren't clear.

Polymer80 Frame Parts
Polymer80 Frame Parts

First let's starting time with the mag release.  It'due south pretty difficult to show through pictures so here'southward one of my sometime videos:

Next let's put in the slide lock leap…this is different for the full-size and meaty sizes so be sure!  It may exist a little hard to push it in all the way into the hole in the frame.

24. Slide Lock Spring
24. Slide Lock Spring

And then become your slide lock…information technology's non symmetrical so make sure you can see the side with the "teeth" and take it confront the rear.  Don't mess this up since it catches the butt lug (aka keeps your butt/slide from flying off).

Press down on the spring with something and slide the lock in.

Next it'southward time to add Polymer80 specific metallic parts to beef up your polymer frame.

Kickoff…the locking block rail system (LRBS).

LRBS Orientation
LRBS Orientation

For the first time it's usually really difficult to put in.  Be patient and you can use light taps from your non-metal hammer.

And so tap the pin through with a punch (left-most hole).  I like to look through the hole to see if it's completely clear to save unnecessary banging.

LRBS Pin
LRBS Pivot

Next is the rear rail module (RRM).  Push it in but no pin yet since we'll demand to add the trigger first.

Then the smaller metallic pivot.

Punch in the bigger pin.

This was hard the first few times since you lot have to wiggle the slide stop lever…and everything is really tight.  I recommend using a punch as a slave pin so everything is already oriented.

Prophylactic Checks

With no ammo in the gun or in the room…run through some safety checks. Fifty-fifty improve…get it checked out by a qualified gunsmith before shooting for real.

  • Oil the rails upwards and make sure the slide returns to bombardment fifty-fifty when simply a little racked
  • Make sure the trigger safety works
  • Depress and hold the trigger, and rack the slide…brand certain the trigger resets and can be pressed again
  • Apply a wooden pencil and put it downwards the barrel…see if information technology shoots out when yous printing the trigger

Polymer80 Troubleshooting

Non working?  Hither'southward some common bug and fixes.

Employ Original Parts

Any office is not working…effort it all with stock OEM parts.  Sometimes aftermarket slides and triggers have too tight tolerances to work in a P80.  And then far the Brownells and Grey Ghost (a lilliputian tight) have worked in my builds.  I've heard ZEV slides might exist too tight.

Trigger Not Resetting

If it'due south especially bad on ane side orientation, you might want to grind off off a little bit of the polymer in the rear correct side rail.

Trigger Resetting Grind Part
Trigger Resetting Grind Part

It should get better each fourth dimension yous grind a fiddling off.  If information technology's withal not completely stock-still at all orientations…check to see if the rear rails are of dissimilar height.

If it is…it volition cause the slide to tilt and get stuck somewhere.

Yous'll have to file the higher metallic track downwardly a little if that's the example.

Slide Getting Stuck

A fiddling grittiness is ok since it's a new build and things volition get smoothed out with use.  But if you're having difficulty getting the slide on…check the slide lock spring then it's not poking upwardly and snagging on the recoil spring.

Slide Lock Spring Snag
Slide Lock Spring Snag

Misaligned Holes

If you simply can't get the pins to go through (particularly on the rear polymer one)…and you look through to see obstructions.  You can re-drill advisedly.

Rough Feeling

If the slide feels crude…again information technology's the barrel block surface area.  Make certain it's smooth and you can run something forth the bottom and brand sure nothing snags.

Butt Cake, Height View

Review

Non much to say hither…it'southward a neat 80% project that's easier than doing an AR-15.  You likewise won't end upwards saving money compared to buying a stock Glock at your local FFL.

But when y'all're done, you'll be left with a sense of pride and accomplishment.  And of course…a fully customized Glock that'south off the books.

Inforce APLc on P80 Glock 19
Inforce APLc on P80 Glock 19

I similar the grip angle a lot more (I believe it's closer to a 1911) and likewise the lack of finger grooves.  Those things are fabricated for the "average" hand that no one actually has.

Plus…the regular frame textured one is a great balance of the stock blueprint and stippling yourself.  Because of these factors…I get a much better, higher, and more positive grip.

As long as you go slowly (you can't Add together on polymer) you should end upwardly with a pretty reliable Glock clone.  The main problems will come when you endeavor to add too many upgraded parts at one time.  Recollect…process of emptying if you end up with problems.

I'g virtually yard rounds through my grey one and 500 rounds through my brown i.  Besides some initial break-in hiccups on the first few magazine changes…and it hating my low-ability reloads…it's run flawlessly with manufacturing plant ammo.

I fully recommend doing a Polymer80 Glock projection.
